De duur van behandeling is afhankelijk van de klinische respons, kweekresultaten, immuunstatus en of incisie+drainage heeft plaatsgevonden
Een duur van 1 week is waarschijnlijk voldoende bij incisie + drainage bij de immuuncompetente patiënt. Duur kan eventueel verlengd worden tot 3 weken bij een immuungecompromitteerde patiënt of indien geen incisie en drainage heeft plaats gevonden.
